Released in 1994, this was to be the last installment on the SNES. One of the first 24mb cartridges, Square squeezed every ounce of performance out of the machine.
This was the first to focus on the magic and technology blend, which was continued in VII, and is also integral part of VIII. Boasting around 75 hours of gameplay it was released in the US as Final Fantasy III.

Story: In a world where all magic was forsaken a thousand years previously, a civilisation based on science had arisen.
However, the rulers of the empire had heard of a magical being encased in ice, so they sent some guards accompanied by Terra, a girl gifted with magic but under the mind control of the evil sorceror, Kefka.
When the Ice around the Esper shatters killing the Guards, Terra awakes to find herself involved in a rebel group that wants to aid in the return of magic.
